That time a dig site map changed my view on pottery shards
I always thought plain pottery was boring compared to decorated stuff. Then I was at a site in southern New Mexico two summers ago where we found a whole section of undecorated bowls from the same era. One of the crew leaders pointed out the clay source matched a known trade route. Now I look at those shards completely different, they tell a story about movement and exchange. Has anyone else had a specific find that shifted their whole perspective like that?

A buddy of mine said a single pottery shard from a trash pit completely changed how he saw everyday life.

Stared at a single broken cup handle from a medieval trash pit for way too long once. Made me wonder if the guy who dropped it yelled at his kid about being more careful.
