The amount of people calling every old pot a 'ritual object' is driving me nuts

I was at a local archaeology talk last month and this guy kept pointing at a plain cooking pot and calling it ceremonial just because it had a little char mark. Not everything weird is a ritual thing, lol. I've worked on a dig near Santa Fe where we found 30 similar pots by a hearth - same marks, same shape - and they were just for cooking. It matters because it messes up how people think about daily life back then. Has anyone else noticed this trend in pop archaeology stuff?

Oh great, next they'll tell me my burnt toast is a sacred offering.

Hold on there, burnt toast is actually a legit sign of good luck in some cultures! I'd say take it as a win instead of making fun of it.
