Update: I had to choose between two volunteer digs this summer

One was a well-known Roman villa site in Italy, the other was a smaller, less flashy project cataloging medieval trash pits in York. I picked York because the lead archaeologist said they needed people who could 'spot a broken pot in a pile of dirt.' Spent three weeks there, and we actually found a perfectly intact 14th-century pilgrim badge in one of the layers. Has anyone else ever picked the less famous site and been really glad they did?

My buddy skipped Egypt for a local survey and found a whole arrowhead cache.

Yeah, that's the move right there. I told @adam9 last year to check the plowed fields after a heavy rain, especially near old creek beds. My cousin did that over in Johnson County and pulled out like two dozen points in one afternoon. The erosion just brings them right to the surface. Saves a ton on plane tickets, lmao.
