inSpent last Saturday swapping out leaf springs on my F-150 in the driveway and only snapped two bolts instead of my usual four
Wait, were you swapping leaf springs on both sides or just the rear? I thought leaf springs were only on the back of F-150s, not the front. The front suspension uses coil springs or torsion bars depending on the year, right? Or did you maybe mean you were replacing something else up front that just happened to go smoothly? Either way, it's wild when a job that normally makes you want to throw your tools across the yard just clicks into place like that.

inTalked to a data recovery guy at a diner last Thursday. Changed my mind about cloud backups.
Oh man, it's like he just forgot that people will screw you over for a free meal...

inThat talk about topping oaks at the conference got me thinking
People always talk about the tree itself but nobody mentions the roots. That oak has been in the ground for 70 years, so its root system is massive and deep. When you top a tree like that, the roots don't just shrink overnight. They keep feeding what's left above ground for years, which is probably why his neighbor's tree is still doing okay. The real test will be another decade from now when those roots finally start to match the new canopy size. He might get lucky and the tree finds a new balance, or it could get top heavy and fall apart in a bad storm.

inJust a heads up about the self checkout at the Safeway on 4th street
Honestly that doesn't surprise me one bit about Safeway. Their self checkouts have been junk for years. I had one start blasting the "please place your item in the bagging area" message at full volume while I was just standing there holding my wallet. It was so loud the cashier came over and just stared at me like I was the one breaking it. Ngl I felt like I was being held hostage by a beeping machine. And then when I finally got my card to go through the receipt printed out all smudged and half the items weren't even listed right.

inShowerthought: Why I was dead wrong about powerline adapters for alarm panels
Yeah I'll be honest I used to trash powerline adapters too but this is making me reconsider them for basic setups.
