Visiting the Cahokia Mounds and the thing that got me was the sheer SCALE
I was in Illinois last month and finally went to the Cahokia Mounds site. Standing at the base of Monks Mound, you just can't grasp how massive it is from pictures. The guide said it took over 300 years to build, moving that much earth basket by basket. It completely changes how you see pre-Columbian North America. Has anyone else been there and felt totally humbled by the place?

Makes you wonder what else we've totally missed about that whole time period. The scale just rewires your brain.

Totally rewires your brain is right. It's hard to even picture it.
