My mom told me to "just wing it" on seasoning and my stew tasted like salt water
I was making beef stew last Saturday and asked my mom for advice on how much salt to add. She said don't measure anything, just sprinkle until it looks right. Well I dumped in way too much and the whole pot was ruined. I had to toss out like 8 dollars worth of beef. Has anyone else gotten burned by advice that was too vague?

Huh, I used to be team "just eyeball it" but yeah this makes total sense now.

Honestly, my first time cooking a whole chicken I followed the "just eyeball it" advice and ended up with something that tasted like a salt lick on wings. Ngl, my dog refused to eat the leftovers and that pup will eat literally anything. Tbh your mom probably meant well but "wing it" is basically a recipe for disaster when you're learning.
