The diner in Gary that made me swear off pre-ground pepper forever

I watched a guy at the counter grind his pepper for 20 seconds straight and I thought it was snobby, but my own pre-ground stuff tastes like cardboard dust compared to that, so has anyone else gone back to a $15 grinder after eating somewhere simple like that?
