Hit a patch of black ice on 93 near Concord and learned why locals keep a bucket in the trunk
So last Tuesday I was driving back from a job interview in Manchester and hit that stretch of 93 just north of Concord around 7pm, and the whole road looked wet but it was pure ice. My little Corolla started fishtailing and I did the worst thing possible, I hit the brakes and spun into the snowbank on the median. Sat there for 40 minutes with my hazards on before a plow driver named Ray pulled over and asked if I had sand or kitty litter in the trunk. I said no and he just laughed and tossed me a coffee can of sand he keeps behind his seat, said every local has one from November to April. Got traction under my front tires and rocked it out in like 5 tries. Now I'm wondering what else I'm missing about winter driving here because I moved from North Carolina in August and clearly have no clue. Do you all really keep sand or litter back there, and is there a certain brand or type that works better?
