My barber said one thing that made me rethink tipping
Been getting the same $25 cut for 3 years and always tipped 20%. Last Tuesday he said he'd rather get a bigger tip once a month than a small one every visit, because he budgets in chunks. It hit different because I always thought consistent was better, but he's got bills due every 30 days too. Anyone else had a service person ask for a different tipping rhythm?

Oh man, that's a wild thing to hear from your barber. I get where he's coming from though, bills don't wait for payday and a fat tip once a month probably feels way more solid than sprinkles. But it also feels weird to have someone basically script their tip schedule, like you're already doing the right thing and now it's a whole system. Still, good on you for listening, most people would've just gotten annoyed and never gone back.

...which honestly makes me wonder if I should just start tipping him in one big lump on the first of the month and then act broke for the rest of it, knowing damn well he's seen my car. That's the thing though, I've been sitting in that chair long enough that he knows exactly when my paycheck hits, so there's no fooling him. I actually kind of respect that he said it out loud, most barbers just give you the silent side-eye when you hand over a single. But now I'm overthinking every single visit, like is he counting my fives in his head while he's lining me up, I feel like I'm being graded on a curve I didn't even sign up for. Guess I'll try the monthly thing next time, worst case he thinks I'm cheap and I have to find a new guy who doesn't know my schedule.
