Used to agree with patriciasingh about general symptoms being enough. Then I wasted an hour trying to fix a printer that had a totally different solution for its specific model. Now I see model numbers save everyone's time.

Most tech questions get solved with just the brand and general symptoms. I've helped people fix routers and printers for years without needing exact digits. It feels like overkill unless you're dealing with a known defective batch.
