TIL my chain brake saved my leg, literally yesterday

I was limbing a white oak in a backyard near Waukesha and the saw kicked back hard, right up toward my knee. The chain brake slammed on before I even registered what happened, which is wild because I usually test it every morning but skipped yesterday. I stood there for a minute just staring at the bar, then I called my buddy and he said I'm an idiot for not checking it first. Has anyone else had a close call that came down to a safety feature you almost didn't maintain?

Funny thing is, my uncle skipped that test once and his saw ended up embedded in a lawn chair, not his leg, but close enough.
