Update: it took me 6 hours to find out why my laptop fan ran nonstop
Last Tuesday I spent 6 hours trying to figure out why my fan was screaming, and it turned out to be a single background app called PhotoIndex that only ran when a certain USB drive was plugged into my ThinkPad. I dug through Task Manager, reset power settings, even pulled the back off to clean dust that wasn't there, all for a 4 second fix. The whole thing made me wonder how often we blame hardware when it's really just some random program doing weird stuff in the background. Has anyone else had a device act up because of one sneaky app, and how did you track it down?
