Bought a cheap dehumidifier for my crawlspace and it actually outlasted the expensive one
Everyone in my neighborhood swears by spending $300+ on a Frigidaire for the crawlspace, but after my last one died in 18 months I tried a $99 Hisense from Home Depot. It's been running nonstop for 2 years now in the Georgia humidity and still kicks out water like day one. I thought the cheap plastic housing would crack or the fan would seize up, but nope. The expensive one had a sensor fail after a year and a half, and the warranty didn't cover it. Now I'm sitting here wondering if I just got lucky or if the markup on the big brands is pure hype. Anyone else had a budget appliance that just refused to quit on them?

Oh come on, you just got lucky with a cheap one that happened to be built well, most of those budget dehumidifiers are literal trash that die in six months (ask me how I know). The expensive ones have better warranties and customer service for a reason, and your one anecdote doesn't outweigh the thousands of people whose cheap units flooded their crawlspaces.

Laughing at the "thousands of people whose cheap units flooded their crawlspaces" like this is some kind of epidemic happening in basements across America. Man, if there's really thousands of people dealing with that, maybe it's time to stop buying dehumidifiers from gas stations or the guy selling them out of his trunk. Sure, the expensive ones probably have fancier warranties, but I've also seen plenty of people whining online about their $500 unit dying in two years too.
