My 15 year old hot water heater finally gave up last Tuesday
It started leaking from the bottom at 6 AM, and I spent $1,200 on a new one plus installation before noon, has anyone else had one die at the worst possible time?

Lasted 15 years? Mine died at 2AM on Christmas morning lol.

Oh man, that timing is brutal. I had mine go out at like 7 PM on a Saturday night a few years back, just as I was about to have people over. What worked for me was calling around to a few local plumbers before the big box stores and ended up getting the install done same day for about the same price you paid. I mean, it still hurt the wallet but at least I had hot water for the next morning's shower. Idk if it's just my luck but thermostats always seem to quit right before a holiday or weekend.
