TIL my gutters were clogged for 2 years and my new leaf guards paid for themselves in one storm
Moved into a house in Decatur back in 2021 and never checked the gutters. Thought the water stains on the siding were just old paint. Last March we had that big rainstorm and I heard water dripping INSIDE the wall near the bedroom. Crawled up there and found 4 inches of packed leaves and pine needles. Water was overflowing behind the fascia. Paid $180 for a cleanup and then put on some cheap mesh guards from Home Depot for $220 total. Last week we had 3 inches of rain in one night and not a single drip. Anyone else ignore their gutters until something bad happened? What did you do after?

Those cheap mesh guards from Home Depot paid for themselves in one storm, and I am glad they worked out for you. But I would push back on calling them solved for good. I put the same kind on my place in Marietta and they did fine for about a year, then the mesh started to sag under wet leaf piles and pine needles got wedged into the holes. Once that happens water just sheets right over the top and you are back where you started, only now you cannot see the clog because of the guard hiding it. A $220 fix is fine, but check them every fall and spring, especially under the pine trees. Cheap guards are great until they are not.
