Took 11 months to get my HOA to fix the storm drain, what a mess

Back in March I noticed water pooling in my backyard every time it rained, and it started creeping toward the foundation of my house in Smyrna. I called the county first, they said it was a private drainage issue tied to the HOA's common area. So I filed a formal complaint with the HOA board, thinking it would be a quick fix. Nope, 11 months later, after maybe 40 emails and three board meetings where they kept saying they'd 'look into it,' they finally sent a crew out last week. They found the pipe was collapsed under the easement and had to dig up half the shared green space. The fix took two days, but the runaround took almost a year, and I'm still out $200 for a plumber I hired to document the damage for my insurance. Has anyone else had to fight their HOA this long over a basic maintenance issue, and did you ever get reimbursed for your own inspection costs?

Used to think HOAs were fine, but 11 months for that is nuts.
