Took me three gutter cleanings to finally buy a leaf guard system

I was standing on my roof in Decatur after a storm, ankle deep in muck, and I slipped and bent my downspout. The $400 I spent on gutter guards last month already saved me from that misery twice over, anyone else have a particular wake up call about home maintenance?

Another angle worth thinking about is the insurance side of this, not just the physical risk. @lucas_perez, your fall probably could have been a claim if it had been worse, and most home policies don't cover DIY repair injuries, so that's a hidden cost nobody mentions. Leaf guards are basically cheap insurance against both your body and your deductible.

Broke my dang ankle slipping off a wet ladder two years ago cleaning leaves out of the gutters. That was my wake up call right there. Spent three months on crutches and my wife still gives me grief about it. I put leaf guards on everything after that, best money I ever spent. Now I just hose them off from the ground once a year and call it done.
