One customer complaint about my filler work changed my whole sanding routine
Last month a guy in Phoenix pointed out waviness under his fender that I'd missed after two paint jobs. He said 'you're blocking too early,' so now I let filler cure 24 hours and use a guide coat before any 80 grit passes. Anyone else get burned by rushing the cure time?

My cousin runs a barbecue joint in Austin and he always says the same thing about brisket, you can't rush the rest period no matter how hungry the line gets. It's funny how that lesson shows up everywhere once you see it. I've caught myself doing the same thing with wood glue on furniture repairs, sanding before the bond is fully set and paying for it later. The guide coat trick is solid too, it forces you to look instead of just feel, which is half the battle in any craft. Your Phoenix customer did you a favor honestly, sometimes it takes a stranger to point out what your own eyes got comfortable missing.
