Surprised to learn my plasma cutter's duty cycle was the real delay

Been doing collision work for about 8 years now, mostly structural stuff. Last month I kept wondering why my cuts were slowing down mid-panel. I finally checked the manual on my Thermal Dynamics unit and saw it had a 40% duty cycle at 40 amps. That means after 4 minutes of straight cutting, it needs 6 minutes off. All those pauses I blamed on my technique were actually the machine protecting itself. Has anyone else hit this and just adjusted their workflow instead of upgrading the unit?

Realized I spent a solid year blaming my shaky hands and cheap gas for cuts that my machine was literally refusing to make. Now I just set a timer on my phone and take the coffee break the manual says I need, honestly it improved my finish quality too. Still felt like a complete idiot when I read that 40% number though, like the machine knew my schedule better than I did. These days I just cut in short bursts and do the layout work during the cooldown, works out fine.
