I swapped my impact gun for a ratchet on rusty bolts and got more done in half the time

My electric impact just spun on a seized caliper bracket bolt for 10 minutes straight, but an old-school ratchet with a cheater bar broke it loose in two cranks why do we all reach for the fastest tool first instead of the right one when it matters, has anyone else found a manual tool that actually beats power in the real shop?

That's a good point about the vibration, but impacts actually work by hammering in the opposite direction of tightening, so they usually help break rust loose rather than weld it tighter. The real issue is more about the socket fit and whether you've got enough penetrating oil soaking in first. A six-point socket on a breaker bar gives you that steady torque without the impact's repeated shock, which can sometimes just bounce off the rust instead of cracking it.

Kroil or PB Blaster on the threads first, let it sit while you grab a beer, then hit it with a six-point socket and a breaker bar. Impact wrenches just hammer the rust tighter sometimes. Got a seized nut on a tractor arm last month, the impact just heated it up and made it worse, but a hand ratchet and a pipe over the handle had it off in three pulls.
