Just spent 6 hours chasing a phantom vacuum leak on a 2012 Focus
I had this rough idle that would come and go, no codes, nothing. Spent three hours with brake cleaner spraying every damn hose and gasket before I found it - the PCV hose had a split on the underside where you can't see it unless you bend it just right. Took me another three hours to get the new one routed because Ford designed it like a puzzle. Anyone else had a simple fix turn into a whole day ordeal because of access issues or bad design?

And that whole "design it like a puzzle" thing isn't an accident either, they know exactly what they're doing. Making you snake your hand through a cramped engine bay for an hour just to clip a hose back on guarantees you'll pay someone next time. It's a feature, not a bug.

Ford designed it like a puzzle" man that's the whole thing with modern cars isn't it. You need three different socket extensions and a prayer just to change a battery these days. But honestly this reminds me of how everything is getting harder to fix, not just cars. I tried to replace a light switch in my house last weekend and ended up having to watch three youtube videos because the wiring made zero sense. It's like everything is designed to be a pain on purpose, or maybe they just don't care about people who actually work on their own stuff anymore. And you're right about the hidden cracks, that always happens with rubber parts too, the split is always on the back side where you can't see it until you're already frustrated.
