PSA: The junkyard in Dayton had a ton of clean 4.0L Jeeps last Tuesday
Honestly, I was pulling a power steering pump for a buddy's Cherokee and noticed at least eight XJs with the 4.0 still in them. Most looked like they were there for body damage, so the motors are probably solid. If you need a cheap long block or just some sensors, it's worth a look before they get crushed. Anyone know a good way to test compression on a motor that's already sitting in a yard?

Testing compression on a yard motor is a real puzzle without a starter. Ever think about just pulling the spark plugs and looking inside with a borescope camera? They're cheap now. A bunch of clean oil on the valves might mean it's not locked up, at least.

Ever notice how we're all turning into amateur detectives with cheap tech? @the_elliot's borescope idea is a perfect example of that DIY fix-it shift. It's like we'd rather spend fifty bucks and an hour poking around ourselves than call a pro right away.
