Extended warranty payout denial taught me to read the exclusion list first
Back in October I bought a 2018 SUV with 62,000 miles and paid $1,850 for a 3-year extended warranty from the dealer. Six months later the transmission started slipping, so I took it to an independent shop. They quoted me $3,400 for a rebuild, and I filed a claim. The warranty company denied it because the previous owner had a transmission fluid change at 40,000 miles that wasn't done at a certified shop, which their fine print said voided coverage. My honest reaction was anger, but after reading the whole contract again I realized I never asked for a copy before signing. I complained to the dealer's finance manager and his reply was, "You picked the cheapest plan, what did you expect?" That comment stung, but it forced me to compare their three tiers side by side. Now I always ask for the exclusion list and service requirements before I put a pen down. Has anyone else fought a denial on a technicality like a missing stamped receipt, and did you win or just eat the cost?
