PSA: My "bumper to bumper" third party warranty took 61 days to pay a $2,100 transmission claim, here's the paper trail that finally worked
Back in April my 2016 Escape started slipping between 2nd and 3rd gear, and by the time a shop in Akron quoted me $2,100 for a rebuilt trans I figured the warranty I'd been paying $89 a month on for two years would just cover it. Nope. They told me over the phone it was "likely wear and tear" and opened what they called an investigation, which basically meant nobody called anybody for three weeks while my car sat on a lift racking up $35 a day in storage. What finally moved it was me faxing the shop's teardown photos plus a signed statement from the tech with my claim number written on every single page, and then calling every 48 hours and asking for the claim supervisor by name, not the first person who picks up. Day 61 they approved $1,780 of it, so I still ate $320 out of pocket plus six weeks of a rental I couldn't really afford. The thing nobody tells you is that these companies bank on you giving up around week three when you're stressed and borrowing your brother's truck. If you're in the middle of one of these right now, what did your denial letter actually cite, because mine said "lack of maintenance records" even though I had every oil change receipt in a folder.
