Third party warranty denied my transmission claim over a missing oil change receipt
Bought a 2019 Silverado back in March with a 3rd party warranty from a dealer in Tulsa. Cost me $1,850 for 5 years, 60k miles. Thought I was covered. Fast forward to last week, transmission started slipping on I-44. Towed it to the shop, they quoted $4,200 for a rebuild. Warranty company says claim denied because I couldn't produce a receipt for an oil change at 45,000 miles. I DID change it, just paid cash at a local quick lube and lost the paper. They want proof of EVERY service interval or they void the whole powertrain. Now I'm stuck with a truck that won't shift and a worthless contract. Am I just screwed here or has anyone fought this type of thing and actually won? I'm about to lawyer up but want to know if that's throwing good money after bad.
Used to roll my eyes at guys who kept every receipt in a folder for their truck, thought it was a total waste of time and kinda paranoid. Then my brother got burned almost the same way, warranty shot down his claim over a missing record for a stupid coolant flush. These companies make money by collecting premiums and then hunting for any tiny gap to deny you, that's just the business model. So now I keep every slip in the glovebox and snap a pic of each one on my phone the same day. Call the quick lube first, a lot of them can pull your service history from their computer by your plate or card, that alone might save you the lawyer money.
