Warning: that old guy at the hangar gave me bad advice about crimping

He told me to skip the calibration check on my crimper because 'it's fine, I've been doing this 30 years,' and then I found 3 loose connections on a 737 nav antenna last Thursday in Phoenix.

This is just like those YouTube tutorials that skip one step and then suddenly your whole project is jacked up. That calibration check exists for a reason, it's not just paperwork lol. People take shortcuts everywhere because they've "always done it that way" but then connections fail or stuff breaks down the line.

Calibration is one of those things that seems like a waste of time until you're the one explaining to your lead why three out of ten crimps on a nav antenna are pulling loose. I've had old timers tell me the same thing, but I've also seen what happens when the crimper dies halfway through a job and nobody noticed until the final check. Just takes that one loose connection to make a bad day on a 737.
