Local knowledge from a gas station clerk unlocked a new trail for me

I stopped at a small gas station near the trailhead last spring. The clerk saw my map and suggested a shortcut through an old logging road. It cut two miles off my planned loop and led to a quiet lake. I've used his advice on three trips since then. Talking to people who know the area can really improve your route.

Never would've found that fishing spot without a tip from a diner cook.

The bait shop guy in Nebraska pointed me to my best smallmouth stream ever.

A bartender in Moab pointed me to a hidden arch last fall. It wasn't on any map, but the hike was STUNNING and totally empty. I've gone back three times now, and it's my favorite spot. That kind of local info is an absolute GAME changer for exploring.
