Warning: The third day on the Teton Crest Trail almost broke me

We planned a 5 day trip through Grand Teton National Park last August. The second night at Alaska Basin was perfect, but day three was a brutal 12 mile push over Hurricane Pass with a 50 pound pack. A sudden afternoon storm rolled in just past the pass, turning the trail into a slick mudslide for two solid hours. We had to posthole through knee deep snow patches in July with zero visibility. Has anyone else had a beautiful route turn into a survival march like that? What did you do to get through it?

Yeah, that "slick mudslide for two solid hours" part is rough. My buddy had a similar thing happen on the Wonderland Trail, just total misery rain for a whole day. He said they just put their heads down and focused on the next step, talking about hot food at the next camp.

Hot food dreams get you through anything.

Mount Rainier turned my boots into waterlogged bricks for 18 miles.
