My neighbor told me my fence posts were set wrong after 3 years standing
Honestly I thought my fence was solid until my neighbor Bob came over and pointed out the posts were already leaning because I backfilled with dirt instead of gravel. He showed me how water pools around the base and rots the wood from the inside out over time. Anybody else learn the hard way that gravel drainage matters more than how deep you dig the hole?

Man gravel absolutely changed my mind too, after seeing how fast water destroyed my first set.

Yeah I was totally in that camp too @matthew864, I used to think gravel was just an extra step people overcomplicated. Watching rainwater sit like a bowl around my first set of posts really changed my mind though. Now I always backfill with drainage gravel and it's night and day for how long they last.
