Old lady down the road taught me a nesting box trick in 20 minutes
Met a retired keeper named Marge near Columbus who showed me how she lines her boxes with dried grass from her own yard instead of the stuff from the feed store. She said her hens stopped breaking eggs when she switched, and sure enough, my breakage went from 4 a month down to zero in about 3 weeks. She also told me to add a golf ball in each box for the first few days with new layers, weird but it worked. Anyone else ever try the grass thing or just stick with shavings?

That grass trick sounds crazy but I used to swear by shavings, now I'm sold on trying it this spring.
