Read that hens lay 300 eggs a year, mine laid 214 and I finally know why
I counted every egg from my 6 Rhode Island Reds since January 1st and got 214 total, and when I looked up the breed standard in the American Poultry Association book it says 300 a year, so I called the hatchery in Missouri where I got them and the guy admitted their birds come from a line bred for feed conversion, not laying, which means I basically bought 6 tiny lawn ornaments with a marketing problem, so what hatchery actually sells birds that hit those numbers?
