Switched from straw to wood shavings and it's way cleaner

I was always skeptical that wood shavings would make any difference for my coop smell, but after three weeks with pine shavings in there my ammonia smell is basically gone. I was cleaning out the coop every five days before and now I can go ten easy. Anyone else find a bedding swap that surprised them?

Three weeks in with pine shavings and my biggest surprise was how much less dust I had compared to straw... my chickens were sneezing way less and their breathing seemed clearer too. The deeper layer also seemed to hold the moisture better down below where I could just stir it around instead of hauling everything out. Honestly the smell difference was just a bonus compared to what it did for the overall air quality in there.

ngl i was the same way, i thought people were just hyping up wood shavings for no reason. but i switched to pine a couple months back and the difference was wild, my coop went from smelling like a pet store to barely having any odor even after a week and a half. i used to have to scrape the floor every few days, now i just spot clean and it's way less work. glad it's not just me seeing it.

Whoa, hard disagree here. Pine smells worse to me after a few days.
