Just wasted $80 on a 'super zoom' eyepiece that made everything blurry

I got excited for the Jupiter opposition and bought a 4mm 'Plossl' eyepiece online for my reflector. It was so hard to focus and the view was just a shaky, fuzzy mess, even on a calm night. What's a good, cheaper eyepiece for planets that actually works?

Plossls at 4mm are basically unusable, the eye relief is terrible. You need more focal length for comfort. Try a 6mm gold-line eyepiece, they're around $30 and way better. The extra millimeters help with eye placement and the wider view stops that tunnel vision feeling. Jupiter will actually look like a planet instead of a shaky blob.

Remember my buddy's face trying to use one of those.

He's right about the plossl being rough. That tiny eye cup is a nightmare. Gold lines are a total game changer for the price. You actually get to see the view instead of fighting the eyepiece. It's the difference between enjoying the hobby and just getting frustrated.
