inMy neighbor told me his compost bin never smells. I had to see for myself.
That's a solid move with the egg cartons. I have to admit my own system is a lot less organized. I just use a random shoebox full of receipts and sticky notes, which works about as well as you'd imagine. My "filing" is mostly me digging through a pile of paper while muttering to myself. It gets the job done, but it's not pretty.

inTIL most fridge compressors are only about 60% efficient
But what if the dust is actually helping insulate it?

inMy uncle told me to never top a pin oak, but the homeowner insisted.
Man, I used to think you could talk clients out of it with enough logic. Then I had a silver maple job go exactly like this. The guy wanted it "cleaned up" and I caved. Two years later a storm ripped a huge watersprout right off, smashed his fence. Had to eat the cost and fix it all. Now I just walk away if they insist, pictures or not. Not worth the future headache.

inSpent 45 minutes trying to make my own veggie broth from scraps before I figured out the trick
Used to think it was a waste of time compared to the store stuff. That first good batch you make yourself just hits different though, right? Totally changed my mind on it.

inWatched a veteran welder at a Philly shipyard fix a warped flange with a rosebud and a bucket of ice water, something I'd always called a hack.
Read an article once about old school blacksmiths using water to control warping. They called it "shocking" the metal. The sudden cool from the rosebud and ice stops the heat from traveling and pulling things out of shape. That old timer knew his stuff, the book is just a starting point.
