Found a way to skip the hold music when my card gets frozen
My debit card got frozen last Tuesday in Denver after a $4 gas station charge set off a fraud alert, and I sat on hold for 38 minutes before giving up. On a whim I tried the Spanish option on the phone menu, and a real person picked up in about 90 seconds, switched me to English, and unlocked the card. Is this just luck, or has anyone else noticed the other language lines get staffed way faster?
I've done the Spanish line thing twice now, once with my bank and once with my internet provider. Both times I got a person in under two minutes while the English hold was pushing 30. My bank actually has a recording that says para español oprima dos and that line goes straight to a smaller call center. The reps there can handle basic stuff like unfreezing a card or resetting a pin. For anything more complex they warm transfer you and you skip the whole queue. Maybe it's just me but I don't think it's luck at all, those lines just get way less traffic.
