Set up a separate savings account just for my card round-ups and hit $500 in 7 months
I used to let my bank's round-up feature dump spare change into my checking, where I'd just spend it without noticing. So I opened a basic savings account at a different bank and set the round-ups to go there instead. Hit $500 last week without ever feeling like I was saving anything. The trick was not having a debit card linked to that account so I couldn't touch it easily. Anyone else use the "out of sight" method for small savings?
Wait, you hit $500 in just 7 months from round-ups alone? That seems like a lot for spare change. I use round-ups too and after 6 months I only had about $85, and that's with me spending pretty often. Are you rounding up to the next dollar or doing some kind of multiplier like $2 or $5 per purchase? Because if it's just single round-ups, you'd have to make hundreds of transactions a month to get that kind of money. I'm genuinely trying to figure out the math here because my numbers are nowhere close to yours.
