PSA: My $20 moisture meter from the hardware store beats guessing soil dampness with your finger every single time.

Same thing happened with my snake plant. I was just checking the top soil and it felt bone dry, so I kept watering. Turns out the bottom was still soaked and I gave it root rot. Getting a moisture meter was a total game changer for me too. Now I wait until it reads dry way down near the roots before I even think about watering. It saves so many plants from my overeager watering habits.

Took me a solid year to figure out how to end my short story

Honestly, that "choose not to go through" ending sounds like a cop-out to me. It feels like giving up on the story's own promise. If you build a magic door for a whole year, the reader deserves to know what's behind it. Leaving it a mystery just punishes everyone who stuck with the setup.

I got stuck on a sleeve pattern for a month before trying something simple

Honestly, calling that month "wasted time" feels wrong. All that redrawing taught you exactly how the armhole curve behaves and why it was failing. The draping only worked because you had that deep, frustrated understanding from the paper. Skipping straight to the mock-up might have given you a shape, but you wouldn't know the rules for next time. Sometimes the long, annoying way is the one that actually builds the skill.

Trying to find a single issue from a 90s run took me almost two years, not a couple weeks.

Remember hunting for a specific "Starman" trade for ages. Wore out my local shop asking about it. Ended up finding a water-damaged copy at a library sale in my own town for fifty cents. The hunt is half the fun, but that final find is just pure luck.

My first time trying to cut crown molding by myself was a total disaster.

They're more like a safety net than a crystal ball, but they definitely help.
