The 2am bank feed switch finally made me trust online bookkeeping
I ran a small landscaping crew outside Phoenix for a long time. My old accountant swore by paper ledgers, so I kept everything in a spiral notebook for 8 years. Last month she retired and the new guy set up a live bank feed that imports transactions every night. I was real skeptical, figured it would double count stuff or just confuse me. But two nights ago at 2am I watched it pull in a $47 fuel charge from the gas station on Grand Avenue before I even got home. That got my attention. Then it flagged a duplicate payment to a supplier I'd already paid in cash, saved me $230. I'm not saying everyone should dump their paper habits, but has anyone else had a similar moment where automation proved itself when you least expected it?
Man, I was the exact same way. Kept everything in shoeboxes and old invoices for years because I figured software would just make a mess of it. Then one night it caught a recurring charge I'd been paying for six months that I never noticed. That one flag paid for the whole year of the subscription. I get it now.
