My buddy tried composting his salon's hair clippings for a full season. The stuff just would not break down, it all matted together into these weird, soggy hairballs. He had to dig the whole tangled mess out of his bin in the spring. It was a total pain.

My uncle's barber tried the same thing last summer. The hair just formed these dense, wet mats that blocked all the air. It really does seem like a total waste of time and compost.

Heard about my friend Paul who runs a barbershop trying this last year. Tbh he mixed bags of hair into his backyard compost pile all fall. By spring it was a disaster, like a wet carpet of hair strangling everything. Honestly the whole pile just stopped breaking down, it was all hair and no dirt. He had to pull out these huge, nasty clumps that smelled weird. Ngl it totally killed that batch of compost, he had to start over.
