I finally tossed the $90 electric charcoal starter I bought in Amarillo
Honestly I thought I was upgrading from a chimney, but that thing took forever to get a bed of coals going and the coils burned out after about 8 cooks. My old $15 chimney and a couple sheets of newspaper get me cooking in half the time. Ngl I wish I'd just asked one of the old guys at the competition in Amarillo before I swiped my card. Has anyone else had a gadget like that turn out to be a letdown?
Did you see that older post about electric starters pulling way more amps than people expect? Someone said the coils on those cheap ones are basically designed to fail, which tracks with yours dying after 8 cooks. A good chimney and some crumpled paper just works, no cords or burned-out parts to deal with.
