Changed my mind about using a torque wrench on every bolt

I used to think a torque wrench was overkill for most jobs, like stem bolts or derailleur hangers. Then last month, I had a customer bring in a carbon seatpost they'd overtightened and cracked. That repair cost them $300. Now I use my Topeak D-Torq wrench on anything going into carbon or aluminum, no exceptions. What's the one job you all think absolutely needs a torque wrench?

Seriously, carbon anything. Seatpost clamps, stem bolts, handlebar fittings. It's not just about cracking. You can crush the fibers without seeing it, then it fails later. That little click is cheap insurance. My torque wrench lives on my bench now.

My kitchen drawer has three torque wrenches now, for everything from bikes to cabinet hinges.

My old torque wrench was so out of spec I was basically just guessing. I overtightened a carbon seatpost clamp and that creaking noise haunts me. Had to buy the whole new post.
