Fixed a bike today that had the front brake caliper on backwards

A guy brought in a gravel bike he built himself, and the front brake was making a weird rubbing sound. I looked at it and the whole caliper was flipped, so the quick release lever pointed up instead of down. He said he just followed a video and didn't think it mattered. It matters because if the lever hits the fork crown, it can't open fully and the pads drag. I've seen this three times this month. Anyone else notice this becoming more common with home builds?

I used to assume people would just look at a working bike for reference. Seeing the same basic mistake pop up over and over has proven that wrong.

Ever ask the guy why he didn't just look at another bike to check? Seems like the easiest way to spot that kind of mistake.

Yeah, that's a solid point from rosek44. Sometimes the simplest fix is right in front of you, but people just get stuck in their own heads. It's easy to overcomplicate things when you're frustrated.
