I finally quit my gym after 2 years of paying $41 a month for nothing
I signed up for a gym in Tacoma back in 2022 and went maybe 12 times total, but I kept paying because canceling felt like admitting I failed. Last week I finally called and the guy on the phone said most people who cancel wait about 18 months longer than they should. So now I'm out $984 for a treadmill I never touched. Has anyone else just eaten the cost of a membership way too long because quitting felt worse than wasting money?
$984 is wild when you break it down like that. I did the same thing at a 24 Hour Fitness in Portland for almost 3 years and I think I went maybe 5 times, and one of those times I just sat in the parking lot eating a burrito because I didn't want to go in. My proudest moment was paying $50 a month to basically donate to their light bill. The worst part is I told myself every month that this was the month I'd get my money's worth, like the gym was gonna magically make me into a person who wakes up at 5am. Turns out quitting was way easier than going, and the only workout I got was my thumb hitting the cancel button.
