Swapped my drill for an impact driver on a deck job and it went sideways

I was building a deck in my backyard and had to choose between my old 18V drill and a new impact driver for driving 3 inch lag screws. I picked the impact driver because everyone says it's faster, but it stripped the heads on 4 screws and I had to drill them out with a broken extraction bit. Anyone else ever switch tools mid-project and immediately regret it?

That 3 inch lag screw is a beast, I used to swear by impact drivers for everything until I tried one on some cheap coated lags and learned the hard way too. You ever find a certain brand of screw that holds up better with impacts?

Have you tried the GRK fasteners? They're pricier but never stripped on me.
