Hit 500 episodes of The Simpsons last night and felt kinda empty

I blew through seasons 1-12 in three months, thinking I'd feel accomplished, but instead I just realized how many hours I burned on one show. Has anyone else hit a weird milestone like that where the number surprised you?

Man I remember when I hit 1000 episodes of Law & Order. Not SVU, just the original. It was 3 AM and I was just sitting there watching a rerun of one where the guy clearly did it in the first ten minutes and I just stared at the TV like what am I doing with my life. That show ran like nineteen seasons and I think I saw each one at least twice. Funny thing is I cant even tell you the plot of half of them now. But that 500 mark on The Simpsons is rough because you realize you watched more episodes than actual years the show has been good.

Did you catch that article a few months back about how many hours of TV the average person watches in a lifetime? Something like nine years straight. But hitting 500 of one show has to be up there. I read something online that said the first nine seasons of The Simpsons are basically the golden era, so you got the good stuff at least. The rest is like watching a slow motion trainwreck where you just keep going out of habit. I burned through the entire run of Cheers once and felt the same hollow feeling at the end. It's like you know way too much about fictional people and nothing about yourself.
