Hot take: The Shield is actually better than The Wire for pure binge watching
I used to swear The Wire was the peak of TV drama, but after rewatching The Shield over a long weekend I realized The Wire's slow burn pacing kills momentum while The Shield's tight 45 minute episodes with cliffhangers actually kept me up until 3am, anyone else find a show that clicked better on a rewatch than you expected?

The Shield grabs you by the throat from episode one and doesn't let go, the whole show just fires on all cylinders with no dead weight. Had the same experience binging it last year, realized The Wire is a masterpiece but The Shield is the better watch when you're trying to crush episodes.

Read somewhere that the showrunner said they wrote it like a novel with each season being a chapter. Makes sense because it just keeps building without ever slowing down.
