I thought 'The Bear' was just another cooking show hype train

I kept seeing it pop up on my feed for months and ignored it. My friend in Chicago finally made me watch the first episode at his place. The whole thing felt way too loud and stressful, like being in a real kitchen. But by the third episode, I was totally hooked on the family story and the characters. I finished the whole first season in one weekend. Has anyone else had a show they wrote off at first that completely won them over?

What show did you almost skip but ended up loving? I felt the same way about "Succession" at first. All those rich people yelling in boardrooms seemed boring to me. I gave it another shot because my brother would not shut up about it. Once I got to know the messed up family, I was totally into it. The characters just pull you in after a few episodes.

Breaking Bad was my big one. I saw the first episode years ago and thought it was just a sad guy with cancer. My friend made me watch the second season and it hooked me hard. The moment Walter White let Jane die, I knew this show was something else. It wasn't about the crime, it was about watching a good man break. You're right @the_william, you have to give a show time to pull you in with the characters.
