Unpopular opinion: I gave 'The Crown' a full season and it just didn't click for me

Everyone kept saying it was a masterpiece, so I watched all 10 episodes of the first season last month. I found the pacing so slow that I kept checking my phone, and the characters never felt real to me. Does anyone else have a show everyone loves that they just couldn't get into?

You watched the entire first season? I couldn't make it past three episodes before the slow burn put me to sleep.

That slow burn is the whole point though. The first three episodes are building the town's mood and the hidden tensions in every conversation. By episode five, when the mayor's past finally comes out during the harvest festival, every quiet look from the earlier episodes suddenly has weight. You need that setup to make the payoff mean something.

Yeah I saw a review that said the show is more about the idea of the crown than the people wearing it. That kind of made sense to me, why it felt a bit distant.
