I was dead wrong about using a coal forge for 8 years straight

I always thought gas forges were for hobbyists who didn't want to put in the real work. Then last Tuesday I borrowed a buddy's propane forge to try welding up a 1/4 inch thick leaf spring for a demo. The heat was so even and fast that I finished in 20 minutes what usually takes me an hour on my coal fire with all the clinker and ash issues. It made me realize I was just stubborn about tradition for no good reason. Has anyone else made the switch from coal to gas and regretted holding out so long?

Nah, induction gives way more consistent heat and less cleanup.

Whoa wait, less cleanup? I mean I get that induction is easier to wipe down, but have you ever had to scrub a burnt sugar spill off a glass cooktop? That stuff sticks like glue and then you're scared to use the razor blade because you might scratch it. Gas all the way, you can just lift the grates and toss them in the dishwasher. Do you really think induction is that much easier to clean than that?
