Old timer at the Sow's Ear swap meet told me something I still think about
He held up a busted farrier rasp and said 'you ain't a blacksmith til you've broke a tool you love,' then just walked off without another word - anyone else had a random encounter like that stick with you?

Nah, breaking tools just means you're learning, not earning.

Nah I gotta disagree with you there abby. Last summer I snapped the handle on a old cross peen hammer my grandad gave me and I felt like I lost a friend. That farrier was talking about the feeling you get when youve put so much work into a tool it becomes part of you. Breaking one hurts but it proves you were really swinging.
